Product Description
1. Vetebral Discs
Stretching or traction of the spinal column has been an effective treatment for vertebral disc disease and disorders, to this date. Prior knowledge of the working mechanics of the spinal column has shown that traction is most effective on a long term basis. The reason for this knowledge is that the vertebral discs do not possess the capability for short term fluid exchange. The Recumbency Orthosis assists in this fluid exchange in the vertebral disc by it’s special layout of the mattress segments. Vertebral disc function depends on it’s capability to alternately absorb fluid under tension and discharge it under compression. The Detensor® Therapy System (Recumbency Orthosis 5% and 18%) achieved exceptional results on patients following disc surgery.
2. Sciatica
Muscle guarding or spasm and it’s associated restriction in range of motion, generates pain. The RO5% and RO18% prevent vascular flow restrictions and normalise the intervertebral spaces, relieving the nerve roots. Compression relief simultaneously reduces wear on the vertebral joints.
3. Other spinal diseases
Reports have shown positive results achieved by the using of the RO5% and RO18%. Some examples are: Degenerative spinal diseases e.g. Osteoporosis and osteoarthritis; disc prolapse and herniations; spinal trauma (vertebral fractures and contusions); anomalies of the spinal column e.g. spinal stenosis and scoliosis etc. Because of the wide range of indications, only a few examples can be referred to at this point.
4. Decubitus
The Detensor® Recumbency Orthosis 5% is in wide use across Europe, for hospitals, rehabilitation centres and for people on long term bed rest.
Findings
The benefits and healing capabilities associated with traction are well documented, in fact as far back as Hippocrates. As reported by physicians, more than 90% of the patients treated experienced a continual and lasting improvement to their back pain during the course of treatment. Although the Detensor® Therapy System (RO5% and the RO18%) was initially designed for traction of the spinal column, daily use resulted in very positive outcomes over a period of time. The action of the mattress segments not only deliver traction but also massages the connective tissue, improves alignment of the spine and enables a good quality + relaxed deep sleep for the time spent lying. Skin circulation is not compromised due to the high elasticity of the mattress surface. The range of uses for the system is not restricted, since it is not possible to hyper extend the spinal column. No negative findings of the system have been reported since its launching. These experiences and the resulting findings have established a secure position of the long term traction therapy in the treatment of back pain.
Information for use:
Please note, the Detensor® RO5% must be supported by a rigid frame or base to enable the full benefits. Slatted bed frames should not be used unless the slats are 10-15cm’s wide with a gap no more than 2-3cm’s between. Tight fitted sheets should also be avoided to allow for the movement of the mattress.
